Power Plant Enters Commissioning Phase

The Levenseat Renewable Energy project which is under construction at the main Levenseat site, by Forth, Lanark is about to reach another major milestone in the construction process, with the Power Plant entering into commissioning phase.

The new waste treatment facility is also home to an advanced Material Recovery Facility (MRF) which opened in September 2017. The MRF uses state of the art automated technology to recover high levels of recyclates and the remaining waste, is then prepared into a fuel known as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) for the Power Plant.

The Power Plant will provide an environmentally responsible means of producing reliable baseload electricity. The Plant uses non-recyclable waste as a fuel, reducing Scotland’s reliance on fossil fuels for energy and reducing the need for landfill.

Commissioning

The first major phase of commissioning is Steam Blowing which is scheduled to take place in January 2018 and is a one off event. Steam Blowing is essentially steam cleaning part of the system before Operations begin. For more information on the Steam Blowing process please download Levenseat’s handy information guide: Community info Leaflet – Steam Blowing

Levenseat will also be running two local events for residents to find out more. Local community members are invited to come along and learn about the commissioning process and the new waste treatment facility.
